Chutex innovation and technology

Measure what the body really does, connect the measurements in one app, protect and alert: Chutex technology described without superlatives, with what it does and what it does not do.

Close-up of the Elio health band

Chutex technology comes in three layers: devices that measure what the body really does (Elio, Vita, Model I, Dorsi), a free app with Aria and the longevity passport, and a protection and alert layer (Elder, Care). None of these objects is a medical device, and health data is stored in France.

What principles is Chutex technology based on?

Three principles guide the design. Measure what the body really does, first: on the wrist with Elio, on the scale with Vita, during exercise with Model I, at rest with Dorsi, as indicative estimates. Connect these measurements in a single app, next: the longevity passport gathers the history, and Aria reads it over time to bring out trends and departures from habits. Protect and alert, finally: Elder cushions the impact of a fall, the Elio 4G band of the Care contract carries an SOS button, and the Care protocol notifies the guardians while Aria calls the person to clear the doubt.

The word innovation has a limited meaning here: no Chutex object is a medical device, Elder is personal protective equipment, Care is preventive telecare and not regulated medical remote monitoring, and nothing here promises a result.

Close-up of the Elio health band

What does the Elio band measure, and how?

Elio is a screenless health band of about 65 g (2.3 oz), with 15 days of battery life, linked to the app over Bluetooth. It tracks heart rate, heart rate variability, SpO₂, skin temperature, sleep, activity and steps, plus recovery and stress indicators. On demand, it records a single-lead ECG, a rhythm indicator that is not a diagnosis, and offers a VO2max estimate. With the Vita scale, it provides an indicative, non-invasive estimate of glucose trends, without being a glucose meter.

Elio does not detect falls, does not measure blood pressure and makes no diagnosis. The SOS button and GPS, depending on the offer, belong to the Elio 4G band of the Care contract, which connects to the mobile network on its own, with no router or landline; the health band bought on its own does not have them. The Elio pack with 12 months of Chutex Health is sold at 264 euros including VAT in France.

What does Aria do, and what does it not do?

Aria is the artificial intelligence of the Chutex app. It organizes the history of the longevity passport, brings out trends and departures from habits, and explains each measurement, with its limits. In Care, it handles the voice check: when an alert goes out, it calls the person, at any hour, while the guardians are notified in the app.

Aria is not a doctor. It makes no diagnosis, prescribes nothing, replaces neither a consultation nor ongoing follow-up, and does not call the emergency services on the person’s behalf: in a life-threatening emergency, the reflex remains 15 or 112 in France. In France, the medical teleconsultation included in Care is a consultation, separate from the voice check.

  1. 1Alert. SOS pressed on the Elio 4G band, indicative health threshold crossed, or Elder deployment if the person is equipped with it.
  2. 2Voice check. Aria calls the beneficiary by voice; the guardians are notified in parallel in the app.
  3. 3Intervention. A guardian signals that they are stepping in, the others see it; in France, if the doubt is not cleared, escalation is possible to the partner home-care company.
  4. 4Closure. Care provided or a report, then history kept in the guardian space.

How does the Elder airbag vest protect?

Elder is an airbag vest, category II personal protective equipment with CE marking, certified by the notified body RICOTEST 0498. It detects a fall in progress and deploys an airbag before impact, to cushion the head, neck, back, pelvis, hips and femoral neck, then alerts loved ones through the app. It can be reused once the two helium cartridges have been replaced, in about thirty seconds. It weighs 1.2 kg (2.6 lb), offers 36 hours of battery life, is rated IP54, comes in sizes S to XXL and is sold at 879 euros including VAT in France.

Elder does not prevent the fall: it cushions its impact, and an injury remains possible. It is not a medical device, and it does not replace the Care telecare service, whose protocol can be triggered by its deployment.

    Dorsi

Vita, Model I and Dorsi: at rest and during exercise

Vita is an 8-electrode bioimpedance scale, linked to the app over Wi-Fi, with multiple profiles. It gives weight and an indicative estimate of body composition, derived from the body’s resistance to a very weak current, to be read as a trend, with no reference value and no diagnosis. Paired with Elio, Vita contributes to the indicative estimate of glucose trends. The Vita pack with 12 months of Chutex Health is sold at 199 euros including VAT in France.

Model I is a connected wall pulley whose resistance adjusts from 2 to 50 kg (4 to 110 lb), with four modes from the catalog: Standard, Eccentric, Isokinetic and Fluid. Bluetooth connectivity is included at purchase, the wall mounting kit has six points, and the guided programs are followed in the app. It is exercise equipment, not a medical device, sold at 1,990 euros including VAT in France. Dorsi, finally, is a connected lumbar cushion of 980 g (2.2 lb): lumbar support for comfort, posture reminders, guided mobility programs and export of indicative reports, with no promise of a cure, for 199 euros including VAT in France.

Where does the data go, and how is it protected?

Health data is stored on a server located in France, at Free Pro in Istres, a host that is HDS certified for activities 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6; the administration of the server, activity 5, is handled by INFORMATIQUE DOM, whose certification is not established. Chutex, or Chutex Care during an active Care contract, is the data controller; Chutex itself is not HDS certified.

The app distinguishes three roles, the beneficiary, the guardian and the partner professional, and role-based access control limits what each one can view. Sign-in relies on a one-time SMS code; exchanges on the website and in the app are encrypted with TLS, the link from the 4G band to the servers is not.

  • Hosting: Free Pro in Istres, HDS activities 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6; activity 5 by INFORMATIQUE DOM, certification not established; production contract being finalized.
  • Encryption: TLS for the website and the app; link from the 4G band not encrypted.
  • Access: one-time SMS code, role-based control, logging of access to sensitive data.
  • Retention: daily encrypted backup; automatic deletion of measurements, positions, alerts and logs older than five years.
  • Rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent; answer within one month; complaint to the CNIL.

What Chutex technology does not do

These limits are the same on every page of the website, in every language.

  • No Chutex device is a medical device and none makes a diagnosis; Elder is personal protective equipment.
  • Elio does not detect falls, does not measure blood pressure and is not a glucose meter.
  • The estimate of glucose trends with Vita remains indicative and replaces neither a glucose meter nor the monitoring of diabetes.
  • Elder does not prevent falls: it cushions the impact, an injury remains possible, and it does not replace Care.
  • Aria is not a doctor: no diagnosis, no prescription, no call to the emergency services.
  • Care is preventive telecare, not regulated medical remote monitoring, and does not call the emergency services on the person’s behalf.
  • The medical teleconsultation included in Care, like the partner home-care network, is available in France only; elsewhere, Care works with the 4G band, Aria, the alerts and the guardians.

Is the technology the same in every country?

Yes: devices, app, longevity passport, Aria, indicative alerts, circle of guardians and the Care 4G band work the same way in every country served by the website. Two features depend on the country, regulated or operated locally: the medical teleconsultation included in Care and the partner home-care network, currently available in France. The app is displayed in the language of the phone, the website exists in twelve languages, and prices are shown in the currency of each market.

Technical presentation page, not medical advice: no Chutex device makes a diagnosis, Aria is not a doctor and, in a life-threatening emergency, the reflex remains your country’s emergency number, 911 in the United States, 999 or 112 in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Frequently asked questions

Are Chutex devices medical devices?
No. Elio, Vita, Model I and Dorsi are wellness, prevention or exercise objects, and Elder is category II personal protective equipment with CE marking. None of them makes a diagnosis or replaces a medical examination.
Does Elio measure blood glucose?
No. Elio is not a glucose meter. With the Vita scale, it provides an indicative, non-invasive estimate of glucose trends, useful for observing a change, never for deciding on a treatment or monitoring diabetes. A doubt is checked with a glucose meter and a doctor.
Does Elio detect falls or measure blood pressure?
No. Elio does not detect falls and does not measure blood pressure. Detecting a fall in progress is the role of the Elder airbag vest; the SOS and GPS belong to the Elio 4G band supplied with the Care contract, not to the health band bought on its own.
What does Aria do during a Care alert?
Aria calls the beneficiary by voice, at any hour, to clear the doubt, while the guardians are notified in the app; a guardian then signals that they are stepping in. Aria makes no diagnosis and does not call the emergency services: in a life-threatening emergency, 15 or 112 in France.
Does Elder prevent falls?
No. Elder detects a fall in progress and deploys an airbag before impact to cushion the head, neck, back, pelvis, hips and femoral neck. It protects at the moment of the fall without preventing it, and an injury remains possible. After deployment, it alerts loved ones.
Can Elder be reused after a deployment?
Yes. The vest becomes usable again after the two helium cartridges are replaced, in about thirty seconds. It weighs 1.2 kg (2.6 lb), offers 36 hours of battery life, is protected against dust and splashing water (IP54), comes in sizes S to XXL and costs 879 euros including VAT in France.
Is Model I a rehabilitation device?
No. Model I is exercise equipment, not a medical device: a connected wall pulley with 2 to 50 kg (4 to 110 lb) of resistance, with the Standard, Eccentric, Isokinetic and Fluid modes, Bluetooth connectivity included and guided programs in the app, for 1,990 euros including VAT in France.
Do you need a device to use the app?
No. The Chutex app is free on the App Store, compatible from iOS 14, published by Chutex, developed and maintained in France. It works without a device, with three roles, beneficiary, guardian and partner professional; each device added enriches the longevity passport.
Where is the data hosted, and is it encrypted?
On a server located in France, at Free Pro in Istres, HDS certified for activities 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6; Chutex itself is not HDS certified. The website and the app use TLS, the daily backup is encrypted, the link from the 4G band is not.
How long is the data kept?
Measurements, positions, alerts and logs older than five years are deleted automatically. Before that, you exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent, with an answer within one month and a possible complaint to the CNIL.
