How this HRV monitor comparison was made

Heart rate variability monitor, HRV monitor, and HRV device are the same shopping question in different words. People want a chest strap, a ring, a watch, or a screenless band, and they want the price and the fee dated. This page does not rank a winner and does not invent a review score.

Every figure below was read on 14 October 2026 from the maker's own page, or it is left out. Garmin, Apple Watch, Parasym, and NatureBeat are in the search demand. Their shop pages were not used here, so they are not given a price or an accuracy number. A search result is not a spec.

Heart rate variability is the variation in time between heartbeats. A device can report a heart rate without reporting that variation. Where a product page does not say HRV, this comparison does not add the word.

Use the table to compare a bill and a form. Do not average a chest-strap heart rate and a ring's HRV into one true number. The pages read here do not publish a shared error bar.

Chest straps

The Polar H10 is a chest sensor. On 14 October 2026 the global product page listed it at 99.90 euros and described electrical heart rate measurement, Bluetooth, ANT+, water resistance of 30 meters, and up to 400 hours of battery. The FAQ on that page says the battery is a CR2025 coin cell, not rechargeable, and that a CR2032 must not be used. The English user manual lists the same 400 hour lifetime, Bluetooth Heart Rate Service, and ANT+ Heart Rate Monitor Profile. GymLink at 5 kHz sends heart rate only.

The manual does not mention heart rate variability. A chest strap that broadcasts beat-to-beat heart rate can feed an app that computes HRV. That is a different claim from a nightly HRV score on the sensor itself, and this page does not invent that score. The US shop page was in planned maintenance the same day, so the euro price is not converted into dollars here.

A chest strap is the form to look at if you want a sensor on the chest during training and you already have a watch or an app that can read Bluetooth or ANT+. It is a poor fit if you want a ring you forget on your finger overnight and never open a second app.

Smart rings

Oura Ring 4, on the product page read the same day, says green and infrared LEDs alternate to measure heart rate and heart rate variability 24/7, and respiration rate. Sleep score text on that page says the score uses total sleep, heart rate variability, nighttime movement, and sleep regularity. Battery life is stated as 5 to 8 days, and the page says actual results vary by ring size, settings, activity, and battery age. The specification line names a weight that depends on size.

The membership page says 5.99 US dollars a month, with the first month free for a new member. The footnote says 5.99 dollars a month or 69.99 dollars a year before tax for US members. The ring and the membership are sold as a pair: the membership page says you need an Oura Ring to unlock the daily insights.

The store page opened from this network listed euro hardware prices, not one US dollar hardware price. This table therefore leaves the Ring 4 hardware price blank rather than copying a currency that was not on that view. A ring is the form to look at if you want HRV named on the product page and you accept a membership. It is a different object from a chest strap.

Screenless bands

WHOOP, on the US membership page read 14 October 2026, sells the band inside the plan. One is 199 dollars a year and includes a WHOOP 5.0 with a 14+ day battery, plus Sleep, Strain, and Recovery insights, VO2 max, and heart rate zones. Peak is 239 dollars a year and adds a real-time stress monitor. Life is 359 dollars a year, on a WHOOP MG, and the page adds a heart screener with ECG readings and on-demand AFib detection. The medical footnotes say several of those features are limited by age, region, or purpose. None of the plan bullets read here use the words heart rate variability, and none give an accuracy number in milliseconds.

Elio, on the Chutex US product page the same day, is 264 dollars once, with no subscription shown. Battery life is 15 days, with a magnetic recharge. The page says the band tracks heart rate and HRV, blood oxygen, skin temperature, and activity, and that it offers sleep and recovery insights. It also says Elio is not a diagnostic device. Medical teleconsultation is currently available in France. In an emergency in the United States, call 911.

A screenless band is the form to look at if you do not want a watch face. WHOOP is a membership. Elio, on the page read here, is a one-time pack. Neither row is an accuracy contest.

Which HRV monitor fits

Choose the Polar H10 if you want an electrical chest sensor with a published battery of about 400 hours and no membership on the pages read here, and if a euro list price with the US shop down is acceptable information. Do not buy it from this page for an HRV score the manual does not name.

Choose Oura Ring 4 if you want a ring whose own page names heart rate variability, and you have priced the US membership at 5.99 dollars a month or 69.99 dollars a year. Confirm the hardware price on the US store yourself, because this read did not lock a US hardware dollar figure.

Choose a WHOOP plan if you want the screenless band sold as a yearly membership at 199, 239, or 359 dollars, and you have read the feature list for that tier. Do not treat Sleep, Strain, and Recovery as a published HRV error bar. They are the words on the page.

Choose Elio if you want a screenless band at 264 dollars once, with HRV named on the Chutex US page, a stated 15 day battery, and no monthly fee on that page. It is a wellness band. It is not a chest-strap electrocardiogram and it is not a sleep study.

The guide to what HRV numbers mean is separate from this shopping page. Prices and plan names change. Read them again on the maker's site before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best HRV monitor?

This page does not pick a winner. On 14 October 2026 the dated specs were a Polar H10 chest sensor at 99.90 euros on the global page, an Oura Ring 4 with HRV named on the product page and a US membership of 5.99 dollars a month, WHOOP plans at 199, 239, and 359 dollars a year, and Elio at 264 dollars once.

Is a chest strap a better HRV monitor than a ring?

The Polar H10 manual describes electrical heart rate, not an HRV score. The Oura Ring 4 page says the ring measures heart rate variability. They are different measurements on different pages. No shared accuracy number was published in the sources read here.

Does WHOOP show heart rate variability?

The US membership bullets read on 14 October 2026 name Sleep, Strain, and Recovery. They do not name heart rate variability and they do not give an accuracy figure. Battery is written as 14+ days.

How much does an HRV monitor cost?

From the pages read that day: Polar H10 at 99.90 euros globally, Oura membership at 5.99 dollars a month or 69.99 dollars a year for US members, WHOOP at 199 to 359 dollars a year, Elio at 264 dollars once. Garmin and Apple Watch prices were not read, so they are not listed.

Can a ring or a watch replace a chest strap for HRV?

Not on the evidence in this table. A ring page and a chest-strap manual describe different sensors. This page does not convert one into the other.

Does Elio charge a monthly fee for HRV?

The US product page read on 14 October 2026 shows 264 dollars, one-time, and no subscription. It says the band tracks HRV and is not a diagnostic device. It does not say the service becomes free after month 12.
